How America’s best customer service was decided
USA Today’s list of American companies with the best customer service was built on one of the largest independent customer service studies in the United States. The research started by analyzing a total of 21,000 brands across 45 categories before narrowing the selection down to a shortlist of around 7,100 companies who were evaluated in more depth.
To help ensure the rankings reflected real and recent customer experiences, USA Today surveyed more than 32,000 customers in late 2025 and drew additional data from more than 3 million customer reviews. Companies were rated based on their performance in seven core service areas:

- Professional competence
- Customer service
- Availability
- Solution orientation
- Solution speed
- Transparency and reliability
Researchers at Plant-A used a proprietary scoring model to identify the top 750 performers overall, including the top 250 service providers, the group in which LifeLock was recognized.
